Please check if all of the screens/monitors you are working with are at 100% scale - if they are not that it can cause the red box not to show.

Could you please give us more information about the issue? What exactly is happening when you try to record the test and what you expect? If it's possible, I would appreciate if you can record a short video demonstrating what is going on on your computer. You can use a free Jing tool for the recording:

I am running my keyword test on a virtual server. i only have TestExecute installed on that machine.
How can I record how it runs on the virtual machine?

Hi UConnAnnMarie,
TestExecute allows running tests only. All the tests should be recorded and prepared by TestComplete.
If you want to modify your test on a virtual machine, TestComplete should be installed on it.
