TestComplete 15.64.3.7 asks for license activation for another RDP user on the same VM
We have TestComplete 15.64.3.7 (64-bit) installed on a Windows VM that is accessed by multiple testers through Remote Desktop (RDP). Each tester connects to the VM using their own Windows/domain credentials.
We have an existing commercial TestComplete license with approximately 245 days remaining.
The problem is:
When I connect to the VM using my Windows credentials, TestComplete works normally and recognizes the existing commercial license.
Another tester connects to the same VM using her own Windows credentials.
TestComplete initially works, but after she closes the currently open project and tries to open another project, TestComplete displays the “Welcome to TestComplete!” screen with:
Start a Trial
Activate a Commercial License
If we select Activate a Commercial License, it takes us to the License Activation screen asking for First Name, Last Name, Company, Email and License Key.
We do not want to activate a new license or start another trial because the existing commercial license still has approximately 245 days remaining.
We checked the Sentinel Admin Control Center (localhost:1947) while logged in as the affected user:
Sentinel LDK License Manager service is running.
Sentinel Keys shows:
A local SmartBear Software – HASP SL Legacy key.
A remote HASP SL AdminMode Rehostable key associated with another machine.
The Sentinel Features page also shows a SmartBear feature with a 30-day time-period restriction marked “Not started.”
The Sessions page does not show an active session for the relevant feature.
The existing TestComplete installation and license work correctly when I log in to the same VM with my Windows account.
My questions
Is TestComplete’s commercial license activation per Windows user when TestComplete is installed on a shared VM accessed through RDP?
Why would the existing license be recognized under one Windows account but not another account on the same VM?
Is there a supported way to make the existing commercial license available to multiple authorized Windows/RDP users on this VM?
Could the HASP SL Legacy / AdminMode Rehostable configuration be causing this behavior?
Is there a specific TestComplete licensing configuration recommended for a shared VM with multiple RDP users?
Most importantly, what is the safest way to restore access for the affected user without deactivating, rehosting, or consuming the existing 245-day license?
I have screenshots of the TestComplete activation screen and Sentinel Admin Control Center if they would help with troubleshooting.
Environment:
TestComplete: 15.64.3.7 x64
OS: Windows 10/11 VM environment
Access: Remote Desktop (RDP)
Multiple Windows/domain users
Sentinel LDK License Manager: running
Any guidance on the correct licensing configuration would be appreciated.
