Not able to highlight the mapped objects/objects in object browser

Hi,


I am currently using Test Complete 8.5 for my application built with AIR(2.6).


I was  able to record the script and playback it using Test Complete.


Issues:


1) Once I record the script objects are mapped automatically to Name Mapping.  But, if i try to highlight them on application, It says "Cannot Highlight this object on Screen". If i double click on the Object in name mapping the properties window shows up. If i replay the same script it executes without any problem.


2) I tried to bring the object spy to identify object and yes.. it is able to identify the object. I Clicked on Highlight on Object Browser and it showed me the object in Object Browser with its properties. I click Highlight on screen and i get the message "Cannot Highlight this object on Screen".


 

I am not sure what is blocking it from highlighting the object, while it is doing everything else on the object.


 

Please advice..

    Hi,


    As far as I know, TestComplete cannot highlight objects, whose Visible property is False. So, explore your application in the Object Browser. Your window may exist, but be hidden.


    As for the second problem, at the moment it's difficult for me to determine what goes wrong. Maybe the object becomes hidden?

    Could you please record your actions using a screen recorder, so I can explore all actions leading to the problem?

    You can use Jing (http://www.jingproject.com/), which is a free recorder, to record and share the video.

    Alex,

    There are 2 properties dealing with Visibility of Objects.

    Visible

    Visible on Screen

    Which are you referring to? My application has Visible Property as True and Visible on Screen property as False.

    As far as I know, you opened a support case on this problem (M0097796). I'd suggest that you work with the support team as the problem seems to be in the way TestComplete interacts with your application. It needs investigation and help of developers.


    I'd like to clarify the purpose of the VisibleOnScreen property for other readers here. This property indicates whether a window (or control) is visible on screen at the moment of check. Quite often, the property is False. This may happen, because the tested window is overlapped by the TestComplete window or by a window of another application (this happens, for example, when you are exploring your application in the Object Browser and have the TestComplete window in front of other windows). In this case, the "Highlight on Screen" command should work fine. TestComplete will activate the tested window and highlight it with a blinking red frame.


    If the tested window is outside of the display area, VisibleOnScreen is False and the "Highlight on Screen" command does not work as TestComplete cannot bring the window to front and make it visible to you.


    In your case, I think, the command should work fine. That is why, I'd suggest that you wait for a response from the support team and developers. I hope our guys will help you soon.

    Hi Bindu,

    TestComplete 9.30.3373.7 - Firefox 23 (i have install patch)

    i am having same problem as you, i have recorded keyword test on firefox and when i tried to highlight object on screen i got message "Unable to highlight this object on screen because it is not visible"



    object browser display visible = false.



    Please let me know what can be done.

    Hi Sam,


     


    As far as I see in our DB, the patch to the original issue was prepared. Are you using TestComplete 8 or TestComplete 9? I suggest that you use the latest TestComplete version - 9.31. The problem should be resolved there.

    I'm using v9.31 and I seem to be having the same problem. I have a mapped object the fail during test execution. From the test the mapped object is not found. If I use the "Display Object Spy" the dialog displays the object on screen and has the correct mapped alias. So if I attempt to use the "Highlight on Screen" function from NameMapping it cannot find the object. Note the object is displayed on the screen at this time. So if I attempt to re-map the object from NameMapping then I get an error message stating that the object is already mapped. I feel like I’m stuck in a vicious circle. I need to be able re-map these objects with extended find to uniquely identify them.

    Hi Alex,



    I captured object ‘A’ and this object is being highlighted from object browser window and then i mapped this object, but after mapping I tried to highlight this object from mapped objects/aliases window then it gives that ‘cannot highlight this object on screen’.

    Again I tried to highlight from object browser and its being highlighted but not from mapped objects/aliases window.

    i have checked visible and visbleOnScreen property in object borwser which is True.

    Please let me know possible solution to it.

    I'm having the same issue with components on Visible=false and VisibleOnScreen=false, if i update the value i got an error:



    Wrong number of arguments or invalid property assignment, i have asked this same thing in other thread but it seems nobody is answering, i'm kind of frustrated...

    Ok i have just used it with no succesful results, let me specify the issue better:



    I have this window with some form controls in it (textfields, comboboxes, etc) if i use the display object spy, i can't inspect any of those controls, i can see them but the tool just don't highlight any of them...



    If i see the NameMapping the textfield i'm trying to access has Visible and VisibleOnScreen properties on False, if i modify those values to true from the NameMapping, it displays a message saying:



    The object does not exists

    And i have search and search but all that i have found ends with no answer to this trouble and i'm stuck and can't finish some important test scripts i need to have done as soon as possible, what other help channels exists ?
