NameMapping has 650 mb of size and TestComplete cannot handle with it

Hello, guys



We running testcomplete in a network disk using shared mode. Now we running in problems while opening the project, appears the message (translated from portuguese ) 'cannot get enough space to process this command'.

Looking for the fat ones files, beside shared mode folders and logs, we catched the NameMapping with 650 mb. We use a shared namemapping used for all projects in suite (now with 7 tested apps) shared among 7 projects in the suite.

Is there any work around to handle this problem?

    Open the Namemap file in any text editor and look for this



    <TypeInfo>

    xxx

    xxx

    xxx

    xxx

    </TypeInfo>



    and delete the whole section



    Make sure you backup the file before you do this

    Hi Hugo,



    You might to check the name mapping "Store Code Completion" configuration (see attached screenshot).



    The "Store full data" setting will generate a huge file. That setting allows you to have name completion on objects that are not running at coding time.

    Hi Hugo,



    It seems that your Name Mapping file is corrupt. It has happened to me too after a failed merge.



    I hope that you use a Source Code Versionning System to revert to a previous version that the TC could load.



    In case you do not have any way to get an older version of that file, you have two options:

    1 - total recall to rebuild your file from scratch, 

    2 - contact SmartBear support.

    A quick update for you guys. I deleted the lines of TypeInfo last week and until now no problems appeared. So, I  guess, it's working. Thank you all for helping me.

    I'll try this.

    Unfortunately, I can't open the project in testcomplete because disk size error. Any idea?

    Hugo,



    If it's a disk space issue, there must be some way to make some by moving unrelated files ;-).



    If it's a disk access timeout issue because to the name mapping file size, you have a ressource issue.

    I am not sure how the project type might change (shared or not) and impact the project variables so I would first try to have better access to the shared drive. If that fails, well, move the project to a local drive, do the name mapping configuration changes and move it back. Before doing that I would make a project backup ;-)

    Hi Hugo,


     


    There was a similar issue in TestComplete 9.0 - the size of the Name Mapping file was increasing after each test run. This issue was fixed later.


    If you are using TestComplete 9.0, I suggest that you update the product version. After updating, you will need to change the Store Code Completion option as Simon suggested.

    I attempted the above aproaches:



    1. I tried moving all files to my local disk and the same error appears. I tried another machine and the same result appears. The error still the same. We are already using test complete 10.


    2. I renamed the namemapping file and the software opened successfully! But when I add the name mapping as an existing item it crashes again with the same error.


    The attachment shows the error that appears after the 'no disk space for this command' message.

    I got the backup just three days before errors ocurred and the 'store brief code completion data' option is setted. Beside that, the archive has only 1 mb.

    Anyone knows if may I remove this extra data using a text editor like VIM and regular expressions?

    Hi Hugo,



    I would not recommend manually editing the Name Mapping file. As it's an XML file, you could have look with any text editor.



    The easy and sure way to remove all the data related to code completion would be to set the file's storage option to: "Does not store data for Code Completion"
