First of all, I agree with you (http://smartbear.com/forums/f75/t88487/addons-for-chrome/#88498) that there are customers updating constantly. But on the other hand, I am sure that they *must* understand that these updates their sole risk. I am pretty sure that for the commercial software no one legal department will include in the EULA the statement that the given web application supports all browsers (or even all Chrome versions starting from, say, version 29).

For non-commercial web applications there may be some business considerations to support as much latest browsers as possible, but I still think that this is Google's fault that almost all versions of their browser is internally incompatible one with another.

Definitely, it would be nice to hear from SmartBear about the real reason of this problem, but what I can say is that Chrome patch for version 30 (the latest one for TC 9.x) works fine for me with Chrome 31. This makes me think that the problem is not in simple version check (otherwise, I am sure that TC issued some info message), but in the fact that Chrome constantly changes something internally. As I said, for me this looks like Chrome's design flaw as it breaks internal compatibility. It's a good tradition to blame Microsoft, but what if every their update broke functionality of, say, all third-party debuggers (like Java, Borland, etc.)?

Once this directory was gone Chrome reverted to it's initial state and had the proper Test Complete extension installed."

Make sure you get the correct windows user directory in C:\Users and also that you manually enable the extension again after the google directory is removed.

I was able to get mine to work after performing all the steps mentioned here.

The Re-instalation for Chrome  and TC did the job for me (i had to do 2 times for some strange reason) but after the second attempt i am able to select the objects again.



I disabled the automatic chrome updates, because i dont want to this everytime chromes updates.

Not sure if this is common occurrence to require a patch everytime a new version is released, but I'd have to believe there is a better solution to this (assuming it's a simple version check preventing forward compatibility).

Any word on when this will be available? I admittedly don't have a solution but this doesn't seem like a sustainable approach. I wish Google didn't update a billion times a years but I defenitely don't see that happening. Being out of commission for days at a time because Chrome was updated is bad.

I have the same problem with object recognition, so all my automatic test cases have stopped working. Really poor approach if each time that a new browser version is shipped we have to wait for a patch. Of course I will stop automatic updates for Chrome in the future after such these bad experiences.
