Can I copy and paste name mapping items?

I wasn't able to find paste option after right clicking name mapping tree, the copy only seems to copy the name. Is it possible to copy an item and paste it in the same tree beneath a different parent?

For example,

Named parent object 'Operator' has button 'OK', and I want to add the same button to another named object 'Help'.

  • I've always been confused by this also. What purpose does the Copy command serve in the NameMapping tool as it is currently designed?

There are times when you know all the identification parameters you need to map a given object, but it just isn't available right now; or you need to map several similar objects that only differ in an identification string. It would be much easier and faster to Copy/Paste/Edit an existing object than it would be to map each object individually.

Consider this a feature request to add this functionality to NameMapping, its an operation that is long overdue.

  • Hi Aakash,

There is no way to do this in a way you described. To add an object to the mapping criteria, you need to map the object. This can be done in three ways: automatically, from the TC GUI and from script. See the "Mapping Application Objects" and related topics for details.
