Can I kick someone out of a session?

I also just ran my own test for session timeout.  I kept the app open (logged in) all night and it didn't time out.  Is the 30 value = 30 hours (instead of min)??

No, we don't have a function to allow you to log other users out.



The license/log in logic works like this:

• When a user logs in, it checks the number of licenses in use.


• If one is available - great, the user is allows in


• If the max has been reached:
  
  
  
  • First it checks the users that are logged in for activity.
  
  
  • If anyone has been inactive for two hours, they are automatically logged out and the user is allowed in.
  
  
  • If everybody is busy then the user cannot log in.
  
  
  
  

I'm not sure about the 30 minute / 30 hour question - I'd need to know exactly where you are setting that value. If a user sits on a screen past the normal time out, I believe when they try to take any action it then returns to the login page.



The "Logged On?" column should be pretty accurate as long as the user is logging out. If they just close the browser we don't know about it, but then they would be treated as inactive for two hours when someone else logs in.

Thanks Barbara.  For timeout, I didn't change a value but found it here: Setup/System Config/System Preferences and found - Code: SessionInactiveTimeout; Value: 30.

Are there plans to make this possible in the nearest future?

According to my experience, it is of critical importance for the web applications to be able to free locked licenses. Two hours of inactivity seems to be the reasonable timeout for regular work, but too-o much if the license is needed urgently and there are no free ones because somebody closed the application without performing logout because of this or that reason.

We are working on a "switch" that allows customizing the two-hour limit. This will be available for our on-premises (self-hosted) customers, and I believe it will be in an upcoming patch -  I'm not sure of the date.

There are circumstances where a security admin type user can log active users out at log in, but this is limited due to licensing issues.

Customization of the timeout is one of the must features indeed. Great to know that it will be available soon.

However, I still think that web tool that has no means for the administrator to forcibly close user session exposes very serious usability risk for the customers. I don't think that a lot of teams/companies purchase a lot of extra licenses just to feel safe that there is a pool of available licenses to be used while orphaned sessions are closed by timeout. Without something like site license, it seems to me that the more common situation is when the number of purchased licenses corresponds to the number of team members. The usual deviation is to have not a big amount of extra licenses if team expansion is planned or on the contrary purchase two-three licenses less for those people who work with the tool not on the regular basis. The latter case may result in the situation that there will be no option to forcibly free a license for some team lead who needs urgent access to the tool. This is the reason of why I think that licenses management is a high priority functionality for the collaborative web tools.

In 9.7, if you login AND there are no licenses available AND you are using an administrator login, you will be able to select and logout any of the logged in users.

The problem is that when we click on the link to kick someone out, no matter who, we obtain an error message "An error occurred while processing your request and has been logged with the System Administrator. If you continue receiving this error message, please contact Support".



In the Report-Administrative-Error Logs, I get this error details :
