Network Suite results from slave machine should impact the master results.
Currently, the result of the test case is independent of the slave test results. Considering the increased usage of distributed testing, a feature to make the master testcase as fail, if the slave task fail is highly required. This can be easily implemented using the Network suite variable. one can set the network suite variable as True or False based on the output of slave task.Balaji_mb5 years agoVisitorNew Idea480Views1like0CommentsImproving applying a mask to an image

Sounds bad! But wait a minute :) I'd like to be able to change a line status in the TC test log with some kind of simple audit trail. For example, there are times when - something comes up as e.g. a Warning or Error - wetake a look, "It's not an error that matters to us" or "Its a warning that's innocuous" I want to be able to see/track - ourteam reviewed the log e.g. went through the log, looked at all the warnings, errors and overrode those which weren't important. - the statuses that were changed i.e. see which had been changed from warnings to "Passed" or whatever the status would be for "this was a Warning but it's actually OK" - Add a note to the itemwhose status was changed so we can know "why was this changed from Error to e.g. 'Error but Passed' status - The overall status of the test run to be updated e.g. if not everything has "passed" it can change the overall run status to an errr darker green to indicate there were errors but they were innocuous. That way the log becomes a document that we can go through, update, and the overall log would reflect the status of the run after human review. There are other ways to manage this process but it becomes something like tracking it in a spreadsheet but ideally this would all be in one place i.e. the TC log (and/or perhaps QAC if you have a license).maximojo8 years agoFrequent ContributorNew Idea2.6KViews2likes1CommentData Generator: Excluding specific characters from String generator results

I have some improvements to mention, regarding TestComplete's Data Generation Wizard: Secondimprovement: To generate the same data again (for other frameworks), I have to define the characteristics again. It would be very handy if TC lets you save the 'test data generation framework', so you can save the template (and re-open it when necessary). That would save a lot of time redefining the test data columns (characteristics). Similar functionality is already implemented on generation of column data (you can create/save as a user defined), but this enhancement would be to save the complete collection. addition: it would also be VERY helpful if Saving (in this context) would allow some sort of Export, so that the complete setup of all testdata, so that my colleague can benefit from my work (setting up test data), when they need to create testdata for their own tests. I'm not entirely expecting this one to go very far... but... The architecture of the automated framework that I'm currently building has the majority of the code to be executed "hidden" in Script extensions. This makes it so that I can implement the framework in any project without having to worry about including a lot of code units. HOWEVER... the framework still needs to have at least one method called from a Keyword operation or a Script code unit in order to fire off the test run... I would LOVE to be able to create a Test Item in Project -> Test Items that I can link the test item DIRECTLY to such a method without having to create the trivial code unit or keyword test. If you're running a keyword test via script, especially in a data driven environment where the data dictates which test to execute, it would be useful to be able to get a count of the parameters on a keyword test. Currently, for any keyword test, you have access to the Parameters object for the test and then just each parameter individually. There is not a way to iterate through those parameters and assign values prior to execution nor is there a way to simply get a count of the parameters so you can build your parameter list to pass to the Run method. It would be nice if, on a per test basis, you have access to something like KeywordTests.MyTest.Parameters.Count and even some way of iterating through the collection to set the values prior to test execution... something like going through all the parameters, setting the values, and then just executing "Run"... The idea behind this, again, is to make implementing keyword tests in a data driven framework easier. With the above changes, you can add parameter values to a keyword test in a more generic way. A framework developer could then (if the KeywordTest by name feature gets implemented), find a keyword test simply by name, assign parameter values to the keyword test straight from data without foreknowledge of the test ahead of time, and execute the keyword test. A much more generic and dynamic automation framework could be created then to integrate keyword tests more fully into a data driven structure.tristaanogre8 years agoEsteemed ContributorNew Idea4.6KViews2likes4CommentsJenkins Plugin enhancement to be able to launch a group of tests items

Consider this scenario: We work Agile, and using continues integration / deployment to constantly update our applications. I use TestComplete for test automation, and have recorded a collection of scripts. Yesterday, The dev team made changes on the application (renamed controls, deleted controls/ put in in different order etc). Then, I played back the original test script, from my collection. The primary focus of the expectations we have is that the test automation tool handles the application changes intelligently autonomously, and by itself, or on command, therefore limiting debugging/script editing as much as possible. First, I have enabled the option to update Name mapping during TestRun: During running the testscript recorded at the initial version of the application, I get the following message (according to what is expected): Lets say, in this case, that the dev has deleted the control "TextBoxbedrag". It's logical of course, that TC cannot find the object when the test is run. However, in this message the option to delete the object (in this case “TextBoxBedrag”), is missing (see my remark), therefore TestComplete is (as we see it currently), not able to handle missing objects in updated application versions, during test runs, in the way we think is most efficiently for us. Resolution: By adding the option to Delete the object (and continue the test run after that), this would lead to more efficient handling of application changes. I would like to hear others feedback on this feature request.mgroen29 years agoSuper ContributorNew Idea2.9KViews2likes1CommentFeature request - Black box screen recording

Seriously, this is an AMAZING feature for keyword tests. However, for writing scripts, if you want to take a recorded script and turn it into a similar loop, there currently is no automatic method for doing so.
