TC is not showing a 'Browser' in the Object Browser tab.

**SUMMARY**

TC is not showing a 'Browser' in the Object Browser tab.

**FULL DESCRIPTION**

I am fairly new to TestComplete and have been working with scripts for the last few months. I was having issues with "objects not existing", which I am sure the community is more than familiar with, and was trying to Move and Label objects in Name Mapping to cut past unnecessary panels and help similar objects (text nodes) be recognized easier. I don't think that I deleted the Browser from Object Browser but Monday when I started work, my scripts were not running properly. The Browser is now missing from my Object Browser and TC is not recognizing anything inside the BrowserWindow. (see attachments for screenshots of each area in question)

I have looked across forums and emailed SmartBear directly and still have yet to come up with a solution to this problem. There doesn't seem to be a clear cut way to 'Add' the browser back to the 'Object Browser'. I have also attempted to re-install Chrome, Chrome extensions, and TC (went from ver. 12 to ver. 15) to no avail. Currently I cannot run any scripts on my PC and I cannot write new scripts because the objects inside of the BrowserWindow are not being recognized at all.

We don't have a "Script Specialist" at my job so there is really no one here to help with this problem. I myself only started scripting several months ago and am at a lose with this. Any help or knowledge would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in Advance,

Casey Frahm

  • Your name mapping looks like it doesn't have Web Extension installed - as it looks similar to this when I've disabled Web Extension,

Can you verify that Web Extension is enabled (appropriate licence is required)

Ensure you have SmartBear Test Extension installed too.

If you are using Chrome v113, then this has stopped TC from working. Hopefully, a fix will be out soon.

  • Thanks to everyone that had an input to help. The fix ended up being reinstalling Chrome again and the SmartBear Chrome extension. This brought back the browser recognition and the objects in the web browser are now being identified correctly with Object Spy.

I think I will have to run through my scripts and re-identify some things but it seems to be working as intended for now.

Yes I updated TC after this started happening. I did see some forums talk about Chrome being an issue with the latest TC version. I have also attempted to write scripts in IE and Firefox, but these get the same results as Chrome.

And yes that was how I contacted SmartBear for support.

If you can restore a backup and go back to the last version of TC that you had that worked, I would do that until you hear from Support.

  • Is this just with the latest TestComplete version? We are on 15.48 and getting similar issues.

Would the fix be rolling Edge back?
