Question Around Name Mapping

Hi

The name of the item appearing on screen is 'Show Document' which is a MenuItem however in the Object Browser it is named as MenuItem(0). Now, after mapping the item I had changed the of MenuItem(0) to its actual on screen name which is 'Show Document' however my test failed. I have attached the screenashot of the reason from test log.

Is there a way I can sort this out and ensure that the on screen name is mapped to the MenuItem(0) in a way that it gets identified correctly ?

If you're getting a different Alias altogether, then that means that there's some alias out there that is being picked up... meaning that the mapping criteria for that one may not be specific enough to distinguish it from the one you're working with.

Why automate?  I do automated testing because there's only so much a human being can do and remain healthy.  Sleep is a requirement.  So, while people sleep, automation that I create does what I've described above in order to make sure that nothing gets past the final defense of the testing group.

Just so that you can see below are the 2 different aliases I get.

This is the one I want to work with and is in Object Browser as well as appears in Name Mapping Editor:

Aliases.TransactConsole.FormTransactConsole.menubarApplication.menuitemAction.Popup_Action.Change_Adviser

This is the one I get when I use ctrl+shift+a and I am unable to see this alias in object browser or name mapping editior. However, this the one which eventually works.

Aliases.TransactConsole.UIAObject('Action').TextObject('Change Adviser')

So the question is that is there a way to figure out why this is happening so that it can be possibly fixed.

Hi,

I would recommend to read for details at least this help section (https://support.smartbear.com/testcomplete/docs/testing-with/object-identification/index.html) to get a solid understanding about NameMapping, Aliases and how they work. Also https://support.smartbear.com/screencasts/testcomplete/reliable-tests-for-dynamic-objects/ video from the https://support.smartbear.com/screencasts/testcomplete/ page can be helpful as well.
