Word compare issue

    Yup... that's fairly simple to solve.

    You're using the JScript/JavaScript function format.  In that format, when doing file paths, the backslash character (\) in a string is used for other functionality.  In order for it to resolve as an actual backslash, you need to double it up.  Change your code to the following:

    function Main ()
{
  WordDocs.Compare("Y:\\Compare\\GGE002-1.docx", "Y:\\Compare\\GGE002-2.docx",2);
}

Hello again,

 

Do you have any idea what is causing this, it now runs with the double backslash however i get a runtime error now

If this is the article you got your code from (https://support.smartbear.com/viewarticle/17635/) then you're missing a pre-requisite step... quote:

Required TestComplete project item: Files collection. See the "Adding and Removing Project Items and Their Child Elements" article to learn how to add the Stores item to a project.

 

The extension requires that project item to be present in order to be able to do the Files.Compare that's embedded in the script code.

As for your question on training...  If you're looking for training in using TestComplete, I'd recommend attending their 101 course (registration at https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/7526921630152809730)

 

IF, however, you're looking at how to write code... the different languages are relatively universal languages so you'd be best to find the training online... for JScript/JavaScript, I'd recommend w3Schools at http://www.w3schools.com/js/

    Fantastic thanks for your support again.

     

    Ive added the letters as Stores and compared them against each other with changes to them and not and it works. However i need to work out how to get the function to show the diferences in the document as the Log message did not show what the difference was, just that there was a difference.

     

    I have attended a few of the webinars which are great however they are all for record and play which is great but i require the scripting knowledge. I will attempt to learn jscript i think but i have seen that Smartbear have a few paid options for training which im sure include scripting(Coding) courses which i have enquired about however they have not got back to me in regards to this as of yet.
