Trouble connecting TC8 to TFS2010

Hello,

Getting error when trying to connect to tfs2010.

"unable to initialize the team system engine. please make sure it is installed correctly"

http://machinename:8080/tfs

login

pass

TC8 is local, tfs is remote as the path indicates. If more information is required, please advise.

Thanks,

Dan

    Jared/Anyone who can help

I've been reading forum posts, Microsoft doc, and TC doc for a few hours now.   I still am not exactly sure what I need to do to get this working (Please don't direct me to another page). I get the error that everyone gets when trying to use the connection manager:  "Unable  to initialize the Team System engine."  We have TC 8 enterprise edition installed on one server and TFS installed on another.  What is required on each machine in order to get the connection manager to work?  I don't remember if I installed the VS extension when installing TC.  Anyway I can tell/install this without re-installing?

    Thanks in advance!

in TFS, are you set up with permissions to the Source Control environment?  If not, you might be able to connect but then it "barfs" when it tries to do anything like add files, check out files, etc.  You might want to check your user permissions within TFS itself.

I have tried with admin credentials.  I've got to be missing something.  When I try to connect to http://machinename:8080/tfs through the connection manager in TC, it doesn't even act like it's trying to connect.  It just returns the error described in the previous post.  Any other ideas?

What credentials is TestComplete running under?  That's the credentials that matters when it comes to making the TFS connection.  I had a similar problem until I was given access to a source repository via my Windows networking credentials.

Ahhh... Why does it ask for credential in the connection manager then?  I use system credentials on the TC server and we use LDAP for TFS.
  • Hi Andrew,

Credentials of a user that is authorized to connect to TFS can differ from those used to log in to your domain account.

"Unable  to initialize the Team System engine."

Are you still having the problem?
