Setting default project variable values via scripts?

I have a script that creates a project variable if it doesn't already exist in the project.  This saves me the trouble of opening every project and manually creating the variable.  That works great. ...

Not really a solution, but I found using Storages.INI method a lot better to use. It allows me to modify the .ini file on the fly, without having to check-in/out files from the repository, when making changes to values.
