Problems with Region.FindRegion and Regions.Compare

We have a couple developers, who have TestComplete licenses, and using this software to write tests for one of our applications.
We are having issues with the FindRegion and Regions.Compare functions. Tests written on one machine fail on the second developer's machine because of small differences found by the Regions.Compare, and in some cases, images are not found using FindRegion.
It seems that these tests are extremely sensitive to the video card/video driver used. Even when we made sure the display settings on both computers were exactly the same, these issues still persist. We tried having both developers write their tests on a VMWare image, but it also depends where the VMWare runs.
Can someone provide help on how to make sure tests using those functions are portable. This is a big problem for us, as we're testing an application written in a programming language that has proprietary controls that are not recognized by TestComplete and we rely extensively on screenshot comparison in our UI tests.
