Name Mapping issue while merging or replacing

I took a copy of current project Namemapping with all its mapped objects as a backup and deleted the current existing Namemapping item in that project. Now when i try to open the external name mapping that i have kept as a backup, it doesn't show any existing mapped items and shows as empty only.

why?

Kindly find the attached document for more detailed pictorial information.

Raj
  • Why do u need to delete the nameMapping item?

Just replacing the file would do what u need.

If alredy deleted, try to creating a new name mapping item.

And just replace the namemapping file with what u need .

    Reboot if needed.
  • I think you might have used Add New here when what you want is Add Existing.

Right click on your empty Name Mapping and choose Remove to get that one out.  Then go up to your project, right click again, and choose Add Existing.  Pick Name Mapping out of that list and then browse to the name mapping that you saved and select it.  That should bring the the correct list in for you.

    Hi Marsha

    Thanks for your reply.

The Method you have said only works fine as long as the Name Mapping files are from different separately created projects, but when they are from same project(i.e. the backup copy name mapping and the existing name mapping are from same project.) then this issue exists whether we delete the existing namemapping item as a whole or just delete the mapped objects in the namemapping item.

    Please find the attached document.

  • Hm. Okay, a couple more questions...

What version of TestComplete are you running?

What are the file sizes of the two name mapping files?

TestComplete version - 10.5 (latest version)

NameMapping file size - just 5 kb each

Replacing the NameMapping file in the project solves all the issues that i faced.

Thanks for the solution Nishanatha and Marsha Robertson
