License Manager for TestExecute?

I've been having a look at this as the rig the test guys use to run TestExecute on has/is changing.   TestExecute is run in a VSphere hosted VM. This is fine. It's all running as it should.   Cur...

    I would highly recommend to turning on Host Affinity so that the VM hosting the licenses does not migrate hosts and cause any licensing errors.

    The license activated on a virtual computer will be bound to the virtual computer’s MAC address and to the host computer (the computer on which the virtual computer is currently running). If the virtual computer’s MAC address changes or you move the virtual computer to another host computer, your license will be blocked and you will not be able to use it.

    If your floating TE licenses are not already VM-Enabled then you will have to contact support to do so.

Hi Colin,

 

Our test environment is 100% virtual (VMware).
Our LM runs on the virtual machine. And sometimes TC/TE are running there. Without any problem.

        Thanks for the heads up dnguyen.

         

        I've already been down this road for the node locked license for TC (See here: https://community.smartbear.com/t5/TestComplete-General-Discussions/Problem-using-a-virtual-machine-with-TestComeplete/m-p/99556#M19941)

         

        So I'm well versed with all the ID binding that goes on with that. I did think it strange that TE floating version didn't seem to care about any of this. My guess is baxatob has been lucky with their VM setup thus far, but it could get broken quite easily if someone started making hardware or virtualisation changes.

         

        So, I'm trying my best to get some physical server space in the office. (Easier said than done these days!) But I'm also going to send in the support request to get my floating license VM enabled in case I end up forced down that path.
