is TC 10.40 compatible with 10.30?

Hi,

I am trying out TC 10.40. We have various desktops with Test Complete 10.30 installed and various VMs with Testexecute 10.30. I just want to try out 10.40 on one machine before upgrading all, so I wonder if 10.30 and 10.40 are compatible, i.e;

  • can TE 10.30 run a TC 10.40 project?

  • can TE 10.40 run a TC 10.30 project?

Thanks,

Paul
  • Hi,

All SmartBear products are not backward compatible. This means that they upgrade project when opening it for the first time in a more recent version and after that the upgraded project cannot be used in any of the previous versions.

So, to try TC 10.40 you need to make a copy of your TC 10.30 project and use it for TC 10.40.

Note, script units are not modified during upgrade, so you can compare and merge changes between 10.30 and 10.40. Unfortunately, the changes to all other project items made in one version of the tool must be replicated manually to the project intended for another version of the tool.

    Hi Paul,

    > Is there any way to install multiple versions of TestComplete on the same machine

Different major versions of TestComplete/TestExecute can co-exist on the same box without any problem. For example, you can have TC9.31 and TC10.40 installed and running on the same box.

It is not possible to have different builds of the same major version to be installed on the same box (e.g. it is not possible to have TC10.30 and TC10.40 on the same machine).
  • I've been in a similar position - I don't think TE 10.30 can run a TC 10.40 project.
  • Thanks for the feedback.

Is there any way to install multiple versions of TestComplete on the same machine, so I can continue with "daily business" with 10.30 while experimenting with the new version?

On first try seems install automatically removes the old version, even if I install to a new folder.

I have already seen some problems with running testexecute 10.40 (of a TC 10.40 project) against chrome - maybe its an easily fixed issue but I dont have time right now to investigate. Decided to rollback to 10.30 for now.

    Thanks,

    Paul

I also have problem running my tests in TE10.40. They ran perfectly in TC and TE 10.30. But after I updated to 10.40 yesterday, they fail after a second or so (cannot open browser, cannot go to URL etc.). The tests still run without problems in TC (10.40). The problem is seen in all browsers (less in IE, but still a lot). I will probably open a support case on this if I do not find out what is going wrong.

    Hi All,

@PAUL, pay attention to the Discontinued Support section of this article - TestComplete 10.40 stops supporting several technologies.

@SØREN, it looks like you faced a known issue. I posted the details here.
