Handling Unexpected Exceptions

Hi,

Currently I am using 'on error resume next' statement to continue the script running on exception and use Event to catch the unexpected window-

Sub GeneralEvents_OnUnexpectedWindow(Sender, Window, LogParams)

call Log.Error("Unexpected Window")

call Log.Picture(Sys.Desktop)

call window.close

End Sub

In the project's properties, you can influence TestComplete's behaviour on error and unexpected windows.



See attached screenshot.



Try disabling the option "Ignore unexpected window", and use one (or a combination of) the other options:

Press Enter, click on focused control (which should simulate a mouseclick on the OK button)

Pankaj, with respect to the routine you mentioned, where would you insert that block of code, since these exceptions happen

randomly; does it matter where you place this statement?  Also, how do you handle "clean up", to make sure all left over open

screens (if any) are closed before you continue on with the next set of scripts? These would not be unexpected windows, but rather

parts of the application being tested (regular and valid screens, that the script couldn't close due to an exception error, for instance).

Hi,

Please follow these steps to implement event for unexpected window in your script::



The event option is available under your project ->Advanced folder->click on General events->Click NEW button against OnUnexpectedWindow event ->select a script unit where you want this event.

You need not to worry on where to place it. Event will take care of unexpected window whenever they appears while script is running.



To close the regular and valid screen as per my knowledge you need to use if and exists statement to close them.

Have you run into a problem of verifying individual cells of a grid, values, properties, etc.?

Currently, what I have noticed is that Test Complete treats girds as a single object and can't look into individual cells with the object spy functionality. Attached is the snapshot of one of our search results grid. Is there a way to "disect" a grid and add checkpoints on individual cells?

Hi,

In object spy properties window you can see the child count for that grid. If grid has child count then map the Grid to name mapping file .

Right click on the mapped grid object and select MAP CHILD OBJECTS menu, which will allow you to map the child objects of grid.

once you get the child object you can verify the values in grid.

Unfortunately the grid shows ChildCount as 0 so I guess this method would not work. I will try to get a sample app with this grid and

send it to tech support; maybe they know other ways of looking into cells of a grid, individually.

I tried using the event routine yesterday for the Unexpected exception window, but it did not work. When the exception was thrown, the script stopped (failed) with the error "Object does not exist", since the script was looking for the next object as recorded, and couldn't access it due to exception. The Exception was not captured nor was it closed.



Here is the code sample how test complete created the event; I was following yours and help topic's instructions:
