guidance on running TestComplete automated tests with Quality Center

We are considering purchasing the TestComplete connector for Quality Center but need to understand how the two products work together before we decide on the purchase. We already have a test project suite developed in TC with several hundred tests. These are broken down into around 30 projects. We are currently migrating all our test cases into Quality Center and would like to understand how best to integrate our TestComplete automated tests.

Are there some general guidance notes on recommended work flows for using TestComplete with QC?

Some specific questions we have:

1. How should the TestComplete project suite and associated scripts be stored - within QC itself?

2. Is it possible to run specific projects or specific test items within a project from QC, or does the entire TC project suite get run when started from within QC?

3. Do test results get fed back to QC at the level of the individual test cases?

To give an example relating to questions 2 and 3, if we have a project "login tests" in our TC test project suite, and we have 5 test items in the project, each associated with a single test case in QC, can we run the "login tests" project from within QC and get results reported back (via the connector) for each of the 5 test cases? Could we also run a single test from the "login tests" project and get results back for just this test item?

We will need to understand how TestComplete works with Quality Center before we buy the connector, so help with this would be much appreciated.

many thanks,

Howard

  • Hi Howard,

There is a lot of information in the "Using TestComplete Quality Center Connector" article and those related - I suggest that you go through those article. Besides, you can contact our Sales Department at sales@automatedqa.com - they can provide you with a trial version of the Quality Center Connector so that you could try it in your test lab.
