First menu item can be clicked while the other can't

Robert is right. Most likely, the "Close" string isn't the exact text of the menu item you're trying to click. To obtain the correct text, you can either record the needed click, or use the Object Spy window (drag its glyph to the target menu item) and use the name shown in this window.
