Distributed test setup failing

I am currently evaluating TestComplete, which I have running on my desktop. I've also downloaded and installed TestExecute into a remote VM. It starts up with no problems, and if I "hand carry" a test project over to that VM, it will run it as expected.

So now I'm trying to setup a distributed test with my desktop as the master and the VM as the slave. I've setup the master project, and configured it with the NetworkSuite extension. I've added the VM into the collection of hosts on the master, but I'm having problems interacting with it.

I can verify the slave host when using the "Automatic (RDP Session)" login mode. (I've also verified that I can start a remote desktop session directly into the slave outside of TestComplete.) When I try to specify the "Base path" for that host (in order to support automated sharing of test files), TestComplete opens a directory browser dialog showing the filesystem on the slave. However, as soon as I click on the "+" next to the C: drive, TestComplete stops responding for several minutes, then complains about not being able to locate a TestComplete instance on the slave. Subsequent attempts to verify the host or set the base path all fail with the "Communication error" message. The only way I can get back to a state where verify works is by rebooting the slave, or restarting the TestComplete9 service on the slave. Prior to doing one of those things however, I can still start a remote desktop connection from outside of TestComplete.

I've checked everything on this page, http://support.smartbear.com/viewarticle/34055/, and it all seems to be correct. And verification seems to work fine until I try to set the base path. The best I can tell, it's something to do with the TestComplete9 service. Any help would be appreciated.

Try inputting the path on the slave machine in the Base Path field in the Host editor, and then try verifying the host again.
