I'm using TestComplete version 12.0.122.7.. in the first manual instalation (also version 12.0.122.7) I was sucessfully able to display object spy on all elements in the browser, but then Smartbear Test Extension is unabled and object spy tool blame the extension is not installed or disabled.
Must likely between when TC was installed initially and today, your version of Chrome changed. TestComplete needs to be updated to at least 12.42 to apply the latest patches. Out of the box, 12.42 supports up through Chrome version 64 https://support.smartbear.com/testcomplete/docs/app-testing/web/general/supported-browsers-and-technologies.html#web-browsers
If you don't want to upgrade fully, you'll need to contact SmartBear customer service directly to see if they can supply you the necessary patches for your version. But since upgrades to the latest 12.x are typically free, you should be able to do so without trouble.
