adding a printer

I need to write a function to add a printer with the generic text driver. Seems to me that the names of windows and the look of the control panel is different across operating systems. Is there any way to add a printer directly to Windows without going through the control panel user interface? I suppose I can dust off my distant memory of Win 32 API. Anyone done this before?  Thanks

    Maybe, you just need to write a function that will add a printer using the commands described here?

    Thanks for the reference. I have another as well that I am pursuing. If I figure it, I will post.
