Can't add or update feature file from local file

in cucumber studio when i try to update a feature file i get "Computing changes in your folder, please wait..." and it just hangs forever.  Then when I try to add a file by dragging and dropping or selecting from the dialog I get "Import of your feature has been started, please wait..." and then the feature does not get added.
