It would be great to add the PCoIP protocol as a connection possibility to the Network Suite/Distributed Testing. At the moment only connection options with RDP are available. Benefits of which i could think of: - Support of certain ressource analysis/monitoring tools - More "realistic" setup, as the VM would be connected over a view broker/server (though probably there won'tbe any large difference in performance for example) The only way to make this work until now (that I know of) is to open a session with a zero client and set the connection type in the Network Suite to "Manual", but then obviously all VM's need to run from a physical client.sn7 years agoNew Contributor1.5KViews3likes0CommentsProject Suite Test Items repeat

I'd like to see TestComplete have a solid integration to Microsoft Power BI. One of the easy ways to accomplish that, is to make TC write it's test logs to a SQL database during/end of test runs. (to be configured). When implemented that way you can link the database to Microsoft Power BI and so test manager, QA managers, line managers, etc, can be presented with test log data which can be "visualized" by the power of PowerBi itself. Why? Because Microsoft Power BI provides excellent (real time) BI visualizations and I think a lot people with decision making power will start to use Power BI. If TC can provide "raw test log" data (database) it's providing a path for great (visual) test logs, dashboards, etc. More info on Microsoft Power BI:https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/mgroen28 years agoSuper ContributorNew Idea3.3KViews4likes1CommentBox-zoom in the Picture/Image comparison windows
You can zoom in on the Picture/Image comparison windows but often I need to zoom in on a specific section where a comparison failed. There is currently no way to "box zoom" where you select a section of the image and zoom straight to it. Sometimes there are very small differences that I have to zoom in on and it's tedious to use the general zoom and then grab/slide over to where the small difference is. Below is an example of how it is now. Not too bad but when it's a very small difference it's very tedious to zoom in on a dozen pixels. When I select a box with the current tool, ideally there would be a context menu to zoom to the selection. Or else when you release the box selection it would auto-zoom as happens in tools in the Adobe suite. http://screencast.com/t/6BQd0JBfUFp0 I'd imagine this would be very trivial for a dev to implement.maximojo8 years agoFrequent ContributorNew Idea4.8KViews4likes0CommentsAbility to add the calling function paramters in current function thru Code Completion

Hi Smartbear Team, TestComplete has a limitation in its out-of-the-box Data Loop feature. The DataLoop feature is not able to read the TEXT property of the Excel Cells. Example: In an Excel Sheet, we may have a Cell 'A' using "Custom" format applied on it and the Cell 'A' reference another Cell 'B' that holds the actual Date value. When TestComplete DataLoop reads the Cell 'A', it is unable to read the TEXT value of the Cell, i.e, the displayed value. To read the TEXT value of the Cell, we instead need to use the COM interface: function ReadTextFromExcel() { var value, text; var Excel = Sys.OleObject("Excel.Application"); Excel.DisplayAlerts = false; Excel.Workbooks.Open("C:\\temp\\AutomatedTestData.xlsx", true); var RowCount = Excel.ActiveSheet.UsedRange.Rows.Count; var ColumnCount = Excel.ActiveSheet.UsedRange.Columns.Count; for (var i = 1; i <= RowCount; i++) { for (var j = 1; j <= ColumnCount; j++) { value = Excel.Cells(i, j); text = Excel.Cells(i, j).Text; Log.Message("Cells(" + i + ", " + j + ") = " + value + " (" + text + ")"); } } Excel.Quit(); } However, this requires COM scripting and may not be a suitable approach for (non-developer) testers. Raised this issue with all details and example Project Suite in Case #00134392 on the Support Portal and confirmed the limitation with the Support team person (Joseph Michaud). The example Project Suite is attached here for everyone's reference. Simply run it, and check the Log Messages genearted with the test data in the Excel (Common - Stores) folder to see the issue. Enhancement: I suggest that SmartBear should consider an enhancement to the Data Loop feature so that Testers can choose to configure whether to read the "Value" of the Excel Cell or the "TEXT" of the Excel Cell. The enhancement would make the Data Loop feature more powerful and help non-developer Users. Thank you. When validating forms fields labels, and help text (properties ContentText values), the "Properties Checkpoint" is ideal. However, it waits for the Auto-wait timeout when it fails validation. In a large project, for example only 10 errors exist and each have to wait for the global default of 10 seconds, it would be 100 second additional run time where in automation time is of an essence. Ideally the "Properties Checkpoint" should be performed in tow steps: 1. access the object including wait for the time out 2. compare the property value do not wait for the time out Current options: 1. Change the global default time out of 10 seconds to a very low number, and that is not a good idea and still does not go as fast as should be 2. Override individual "Properties Checkpoint" to set a very low value, is difficult to maintain with constant edits, and still does not go as fast as should be 3. Use the "If Object" or "If Then" with "Log Message" it becomes 4 statements rather than the single "Properties Checkpoint", and still the time out appliesHassan_Ballan4 years agoContributor471Views1like0CommentsShow all attributes in the Available list when mapping objects

We have just replaced our old home-grown Jenkins integration with the new 'official' SmartBear Jenkins-TestComplete integration. I find it very easy to work with and it has made our Jenkins integration more 'flashy' and easy to work with for people who are not working with the test system on a daily basis. One feature of our old setup was not possible to reproduce in the new. We sometimes need to run the test on branches of the code (other than the master branch). In our SUT this can be specified in the URL and in the old integration we called TC/TE with a command line argument to specify the branch (if different from master). Unfortunately the new Jenkins integration does not allow for arguments. Adding a field in the UI where you can specify a command line parameter to TestComplete/TestExecute would be nice. This field of course has to allow for variables, so you can pass the information round. This problem can of course be solved in other ways (e.g. dumping the information in a file or environment variable on the slave in Jenkins and read it in TC/TE), but we find our current implementation the most satisfactory. Script extensions are a very useful feature of TestComplete, allowing end users to create their own custom objects, checkpoints, keyword operations, etc., for use in their automation projects. We use script extensions in building out large sections of our automation framework, encapsulating functions like ADO SQL queries so that the code is accessible across all projects without needing to include files in every project. At this time, when running test automation using the Environment Manager interface to CBT, these custom script extensions are not bundled into the project when it is sent to the virtual environment of CBT, meaning that any tests we construct which may use parts of our extensions will be unable to run on CBT. I would like to see Script Extension support included in the interface to CBT. Perhaps look at the script extension directories of the TestComplete/TestExecute launch on the local machine, package up any TCX files found in those directories, copy them up to the CBT environment into the TestExecute instance there prior to launching the tests. This would make using the Environment Manager a more robust solution for testing in multiple browser environments by allowing more customization of code frameworks.tristaanogre7 years agoEsteemed ContributorNew Idea8.7KViews3likes5CommentsCreate a customised panel, like the ToDo panel, but using your own 'key words' instead
Currently, the ToDo panel available in TC is useful when you specify a comment or the like using certain pre-defined keywords like 'TODO' and 'DONE'. What I propose is to have a similar panel, that we can customise using our own key words. For example, I could create a new panel, call it 'Version 4.1' and also create my own key words like, 'V4.1', whereby if I specify a comment using the key word 'V4.1', to indicate that I'm working on Version 4.1, then I will have a panel containing a list of all my comments with my keyword 'V4.1'. A user can use whatever keywords they desire in order to keep a list of their work. Also, similarly to the 'TODO' and 'DONE' option that gets alternated between each other in the TODO Panel, a user can create something where two key words alternate between each other as well. Other parameters similarly to the existing ones like 'Priority', 'Category', etc or using our own customised parameters can be setup as well. Also, the 'Line Number' and 'Location', as it is currently being used when you do a search, should also be added to the TODO Panel for easier reference.
