Microsoft Excel issue
Good morning, Just wondering if anyone has experienced this before or knows what is going on... Currently, we are using runner machines that are on Windows 7 OS along with Excel 2013. We have a test that when it starts up, it reads from an excel file without actually opening it to verify the columns are present in the file so for a few seconds it is running this in the background then after a minute it starts running the test in our company's software using information in that data file. We recently decided to move to new runner machines which are running Windows 10 OS and Excel 2016. When we run that exact same test, during that same time period of it reading the data file, instead of checking and moving on we are getting a message asking us if we want to Save, Don't Save, or Cancel. Because of this message box coming up, the test thinks it is still doing stuff with excel so it won't proceed. We are not actually changing anything in the data file so there isn't anything to save. Would this because of the change in OS and version of Excel? Is it reading the data file and something happens in the background of Microsoft Excel where it thinks "oh hey, this was created in 2013 and I am 2016 so I am running something in the background/updating the file and now there is a change"? Anyone have any thoughts on this? The examples I am using are Macro enabled excel files so I don't know if that makes a difference...? I appreciate any help. Thanks.Solved1.4KViews0likes3CommentsMerging non-version dependent files from 12 to 14
We are currently still running TestComplete 12 on our machines and are working on getting 14 ready to go. With upgrading to small builds, there wasn't many problems but we are wondering if we will encounter any issues when going to 14 as far as merging our code. Can we merge non-version dependent files from our prod TC12 to the new TC14 branch. Sorry if this doesn't make sense. Let me know if further clarification is needed. Hey all, Our team recently upgraded to TestComplete 12.6 and it was a big hassle to get the upgrade installed on all our machines with timing and making sure we had time to test things in between software releases for our company. Then as soon as we updated to 12.6, TestComplete 14 came out. What I'm wondering is, is there a place where we can get info on future updates or more information on when future patches may be put out. We are thinking of updating to 14 but we don't want to do that and then a patch comes out and we'll be behind because of the long process here of getting things approved and updated. Is there a 14.1 in the works in which we might as well wait until that is released to update..? Just looking for some info to get back on track of having the most up to date stuff and limit the run around we have internally. Thanks and have a great day.Solved1.1KViews0likes1CommentWhich script language do you prefer and why?
I apologize if this topic has been discussed before but I wasn't able to find what I was looking for in what is out there at the moment. Our team currently uses VBScript but it has been in discussion for the past couple years that we should move to something else. Currently our top two choices are between Python and Javascript. No one really has a preference because both are languages that no one has really used much on our team. Either way we will all have to get some training and learn the language but I was just curious if anyone had any opinion on what they found to be "better". Obviously some people will have their preference but I was just wondering if anyone can share their opinion and experience. Thank you and have a great day!Solved1.8KViews0likes3Comments
