Re: Object recoginition completely failing
I think you've hit the nail on the head, I have14.20.2175.7 as this is the latest we can use. But the software itself has already downloaded those patches as they exist. I would have expected it not to even download them automatically if it couldn't use them. Thats a shame! I'll have to speak to our accounts team as they didn't renew due to not knowing if we were going to use the product anymore but I assumed I could still use it on the older version for now, but it seems not.1.6KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Object recoginition completely failing
Version 77 but I tried downgrading to 76 and same issue. Only thing I didn't have was the Environment Variable which I hadn't needed in the past but this has made no difference unfortunately. If I try to highlight any object I just get the Window and none of the inner objects get highlighted. I've not even got to the point of running the tests yet. I can get TestComplete to open Firefox but it doesn't navigate to the URL specified. If I change that line to alter btFirefox to btChrome it opens Chrome and navigates to the URL. But I cannot pick an object using the Name Mapping Add Object picker in any browser. If I simply have a test that tells an instance of firefox to open, then on the next line asks it to navigate, it opens Firefox but then the navigation fails and I get this.1.6KViews0likes2CommentsObject recoginition completely failing
Hi all, It's been a while since I've used TestComplete and our maintenance subscription has lapsed. I have an urgent need to fire it up and rerun some tests I wrote a while back but for some reason the software is refusing to see Firefox as a browser. It'll find and interact with Chrome but will open Firefox but then says Sys.Browser cannot be found. I have completely reinstalled TestComplete 14 and let it update the Firefox and Chrome modules but to no avail. What I did notice is that if I attempt to map a new object using the point and click approach, it only selects/highlights the entire window in red. Nothing inside it. I tried this on both Firefox and Chrome. I then thought it might be due to me accessing this installiation over RDP. So I've installed it locally and have exactly the same issue, it will not select any objects on screen at all. Am I missing something really obvious? Many Thanks!Solved1.6KViews0likes4CommentsRe: C#Script language option missing
Awesome thanks, it doesn't make sense to me that it seems to appear at one level and not another, but I'm not too concerned as knowing that the syntax is interchangeable I think I prefer the look of Javascript versus C#Script anyway, all the [""] stuff in the C#Script syntax to me is ugly. Many thanks for your help!1.5KViews0likes0CommentsC#Script language option missing
Hi all, I've been using TestComplete 12 for some months now and created a sizeable project using C#Script as the chosen language. I have since updated to version 14 and continued to develop the project just fine. Today I came to do a demo for some colleagues and on starting a brand new project I notice that the C# and C++ script options are no longer showing. I fired up version 12 and they are also now missing from there. I've searched the forum but cannot find a simple answer to this, any ideas? Thanks Paul.Solved1.5KViews0likes2CommentsTest case best practises
Hi all, I'm still fairly new to using TestComplete and I have a question. I have searched to find an answer and honestly maybe my Google skills are poor of late but I couldn't find a definitive answer. I have been using our trial of TestComplete while we have been organising purchasing it and I have created multiple sections in a project each to hook into various different systems we use. My question is around writing and executing a test case. I have seen 2 obvious ways of doing this, 1 is from the overall suite level where you can add a step, and then child steps to that etc etc and also to create another script file which has all the test cases inside as functions, each calling other functions step by step. Is there any typical or recommended way or formatting all of the steps of a test case using this software? Thanks927Views0likes1CommentNewbie question around desktop UI testing
Hi all, firstly apologies for the potentially super simple nature of this query. My previous automation testing experience was limited to an in house developed framework with simple language to write automated tests in. I've come to a new company and we need to start automating the various systems we use, one happens to be a 3rd party accountancy product which runs on Windows. We are currently trialling TestComplete with a view to purchasing it but I think my lack of code level experience is hindering me from providing my manager with a proof of concept that we can use it for our needs. I have a test case which I used the record function to map out as I configured a client within the desktop app, but on playing the converted code back (with alterations) the outcome is different and fails. The record converted code is something like this: Aliases.ClientFrameWork.frmMain.mainTab.splMain.SplitterPanel.tabMain1.UITabPage8.frmClient.tbMainTab Which when I play back fails because despite the UT Tab on a different client being in the same place within the app, and in the exact same spot on the screen, it seems to often have a different value and I'm struggling to understand how to work around this so that I can consistently ask it to navigate to the correct tab.
