Re: Why do my recorded test object names change?
From what I can tell - I have a reason of why object names change. Was occurring when my scripts were coded: Since we support the browser Internet Explorer, I realize that even when an IE window is closed there are some residual files (iexplore.exe and iexplore.exe *32) running in the background (can see via Task Manager). The Solution: Imake sure to delete any extra IE processes that are running via Task Manager and that seems to solve all my issues. I close out All IE browser windows and just keep the one IE browser window open that I am working with. Thanks All3KViews3likes1CommentWhy do my recorded test object names change?
I started out recording my scripts (which I think I might be regretting, but it helped get them up and running in a faster timeframe). 1. If I run a test and it passes one day but not the next because theobject names are clearly not the same (they are close) I'll do an object spy and fix. Might work for that day and then another test run, objects will fail: example: Object name was: Aliases.browser.pageDevices.linkGoToHomePage.textnodeHome Todays' object name is: Aliases.browser.pageDevices.panelPageContainer.panelPageHead.linkGoToHomePage.textnodeHome My development team says they are not changing anything but clearly something is changing somewhere. I can add wildcards to a certain extent but wondering why this is happening? 2. Also why am I getting mapped objects being called: Sys.browser, then another Sys.browser 2, browser 22and Sys.browser 3... what is the reason for this? I'm afraid to delete the newer 2 and 3 browser hierarchy in fear I would break my scripts. (I could delete one and see where that takes me) but thought I'd check with other Test Complete users first. If I'm doing something wrong, I would love to know what it is. Thanks All to who might respond.Solved3.2KViews0likes7Comments- 1.6KViews0likes0Comments
How to close an excel window
In my web application, I'm clicking on an "Export" button. Opens an excel window. I give the window focus and then try to cancel out of the excel window that popped up. I get 2 different errors: 1. There was an attempt to perform an action on a zero-based window or 2. There was an attempt to perform an action at point (#,#) which is overlapped by another window. Any advice, workarounds, suggestions to get this excel window to close or cancel...? Thanks!860Views0likes1CommentHow to close an excel window in web application
I have an Excel window (from a Web Application) that pops up from clicking an Export button. I've recorded this step and even give the excel window focus and then click either cancel or close. When executing the test, I get either error: 1. "There was an attempt to perform an action on a zero-sized window" OR 2. "There was an attempt to perform an action at point (#, #) which is overlapped by another window". Can TestComplete close this excel window. Any helpful hints, workarounds, suggestions etc. to try? Thanks in Advance! Cristina1.6KViews0likes3CommentsRe: Create an identical copy of a keyword test
Thanks, I've tried this SAVE As in the past and it just renames the current test. This was before adding files to Team Foundation. Either way, I just created a new test that stayed on my machine, didn't go to the Team Foundation Server at all. It was Test2. I did a Save As Test 22. Now it's renamed as Test22 in TestComplete. When I do the Add to Existing item, it brings me to the location of my current tests on my hdd, and I can only see Test22, not the original Test 2. :( bummer. Thanks though for the instructions!4.6KViews0likes1CommentRe: Create an identical copy of a keyword test
Irecreated and the error I'm getting says "An error occurred in the Team Foundation Version Control client. Reason: the item bla bla bla could not be found in your workspace or you do not have permission to access it. I'll create a new test that isn't connected to Team Foundation (as I didn't see the one copy I made, wasn't on Team Foundation Server) and try again.4.6KViews0likes7CommentsRe: Create an identical copy of a keyword test
Thanks, I just tried that with a sample test of mine, and it renamed it to my new name. I got a few weird errors about permissions and access to that folder (wonder why?!) . With the Add -> Existing item I couldn't find my original maybe because of the errors I was getting. I am also using TestComplete v12.4.6KViews0likes1CommentCreate an identical copy of a keyword test
I'm trying to save a keyword test using "save as" so I keep my original test and make an exact duplicate copy. The Save As will rename my existing test. What's the best way (other than copy all and paste into a new test) to do this? (I guess I assumed like in a Microsoft Word doc if you save as and choose a different name, you would get a copy of the document. But it doesn't work like that) Thanks!4.8KViews0likes11Comments
