shortcut to jump to specific record in dbtable where difference was found during compare from script
Hi, in qa we compare data tables a lot. We use dbtables to create snapshots and later compare them to the data contained in updated versions. When we find differences we often get very long reports with may "contains ... that differs from..." lines. Then, we manually have to check every record that has differences. When double clicking in the log, the script file line is shown that triggers the dbtable compare. To get to the line mentioned in the log file, I have to manually open the dbtable and scroll down to the records mentioned in the log file. This is really stupid work, especially on long database tables. I spend more time looking up the record I want to check rather than comparing the values. So, if there was a faster way to jump to the specific row in a dbTable that was menioned in the log file would save me lots of time. Since we update data on regulare base this multiplies into a lot of unproductive time. Thanks, -Carsten1.5KViews1like0CommentsRe: Find and Replace in keyword tests
Hi Dmitry, >>So, is it possible for anyone clarify this request? >>What exactly functionality you expect to see? >>It would be great if you provide a good use case for it. I just renamed the script file in a project and now had to replace all calls to script functions (run script routine action) manually. Similar thing happens, when I rename functions. I have to update the script calls in all keyword tests manually. I am really missing search and replace here! Hi, I had a repetitive sequence of statements in several keyword tests. I put this "common code" into a separate keyword test and now run the code with a "run keyword test" action from withing other keyword tests. That works nicely. However, I always get the following warning: "... expects a different set of parameters. Please update the operation parameters." I have not idea, what parameter TestComplete is complaining about. It's just one keyword test running another keyword test. Anyone has an idea how to get rid of this warning? Hello Joseph, that was quick, I wonder why this has not been fixed before! However, I had to look up the word "serendipitous" and now that I understand it I totally agree ;-) Thanks a lot, the patch works! Hi William, thanks for your feedback! Good to know that there are at least two of us! ;-) I really wonder why this is not being fixed since it is something frequently used if you are into code. Makes coding (and writing tests) harder than it needs to be. -Carsten2.5KViews0likes0Commentsfind function in testcomplete editor focuses on wrong windows
Hi, is anyone else bothered with the bug that the code editor in TestComplete (10.6) focuses on a wrong window when using the "find" command and skipping through the results? When clicking on "find" or "find next" the editor brings another window (and not the code window) to front (whatever app is running besides TestComplete) so I manually have to focus TestComplete with alt-tab. This is on Win7 32-Bit. This problem has been there for a while and it makes me have a lot of patients (which I don't have ;-) ) when coding in the editor. Is there a solution for this? Thanks, - CarstenSolved2.5KViews1like6CommentsRe: How to change scripting language of an existing project
The project already has a lot of keyword tests and database checkpoints. So there seems to be no other way but creating a new project and trying to add the existing test project items one by one to the new project. :-( Regards, - Carsten7.4KViews0likes0CommentsRe: How to change scripting language of an existing project
Thanks Martin, I do not have any scripts yet in this project and want to add my first script (Delphi Script). But when I created the project I selected "VBScript" (without thinking about it). So it's a little easier: I want to change the script language in a project that does not have any scripts yet. Maybe that's possible (with a hack)? Hello, I have created a test project and worked with it for a while. Now I realized that I did not select the right scripting language. I understand, that the scripting language is selected when creating a project. But how can I change the scripting language afterwards? I have not found any project property for this purpose. Hi Jared, thanks again. The object mapping was the right start. After mapping to TStringList the table checkpoint reported error messages what was missing. After going through these errors and changing our grid-code in several iterations we are now finally able to create table checkpoints for our custom (bold-) grid. This is a real time saver and I will refactor my tests to take advantage of the table checkpoint. Until now I was using exports of the grids to verify its content. A lot more code and less readable.
