VB 6 applications seem to crash more often with TestComplete 8.5 than 8.2.

I am also running into this same situation.

I had a test for an application written in VB6 that ran fine with TC 8.2.

When I installed TC 8.5 I get a runtime error and the application crashes.

Please follow the steps below to help us investigate the problem:



1. Download AQtime Standard, which is our free profiling tool, from our web site:

2. Install the tool.



3. Start AQtime with the -NotOpenApp command line argument. For example, you can use the following command line:


"c:\Program Files\Automated QA\AQtime 7\Bin\AQtime.exe" -NotOpenApp



4. Select the 'File | New Project From Module...' main menu item.



5. In the Open File dialog, select the the tested application's executable file and click Open.



6. Take a look at the AQtime toolbar - there is a combo box. Open it and select the "Tracing | Exception Trace Profiler" item.



7. Select the "Options | Options..." main menu command - the Options dialog will appear.



8. Set the "Profiling Time | Event View | General | Exceptions | Depth shown" setting to 100 and click OK.



9. Start the tested application via selecting "Run | Run" in AQtime's main menu.



10. Reproduce the problem.



11. After the problem occurs, right-click somewhere within the Event View panel (it is opened by default at the bottom of AQtime's window) and select the 'Save All...' item.



12. Save the panel's contents to an HTML file and send me the file via our Contact Support form:

I downloaded the profiler package. However, because we are close for a release, I'm not sure I will have time to collect the requested information in the next 3 weeks. I reverted to TestComplete 8.2 and I'm running muy tests again without further problems.

We managed to find a temporary solution for the problem. If you're interested in it, contact us via Contact Support form. Currently we're working with Chris further to reproduce the problem on our side and find its root cause.

Thanks for responding.  I have actually inquired about this issue through the support site a few times now but have not received any word back.  I have not even received the auto-reply email (which usually occurs).  Perhaps there is something wrong with the system?  I also sent in a AQTime file with one of the posts per the instructions given in a prior post (not sure if it is correct though).  Perhaps you could check to see that things are working as they should?

Anyway, I had to move back down to 8.2 on my test boxes for now.  I will keep looking back here for progress updates.

I think you just got to the auto-suggested results steps and haven't actually submitted the support case. I can try looking for your cases in our DB if you let me know the e-mail address you used for the web submission.
