Are we unable to spy the entire object, or just the parent level of the pop up is exposed when we do spy the object.
That pop up MAY be defined as a desktop based application, so there could be different protocol to follow based on that.
If you can please try to spy the object, or view it in the object browser, and see if its defined by unique properties, or xpath and css selectors.
