Can Testcomplete be used for verifying a 3-tier architecture web application?

Hi,

Could anyone please advice on which tool from Smartbear is most suitable for verifying the different layers from a 3-tier architecture web application, i.e composed of

  • GUI/presentation layer (web browser on a desktop or mobile device)
  • Business/application layer (different applications types (Java, Angular), APIs, web services, Middelware such as Biztalk)
  • Database layer

How would you test with only one tool

  • the integration between the layers and components,
  • non-functional parts (load, stress, availability...etc)
  • individual components (is there any possibility to create stubs)?

TestComplete seems to be a good candidate but what the limitations are in such type of architecture?

Or is there a need for different tools per test area/layer?

For example, can SOAPUI, ReadyAPI, LoadComplete tests be implemented and reused in TestComplete interface in order to manage all types of tests?

If anyone has suggestion on which tools should be used and in which context, would be very helpful.

In advance thank you

best regards

Test complete is GUI functional testing tool.

It has some extra capabilities like calling database and web services.

But for load testing and stress testing can not be done with TC.

TC can drive it's sister products like SOAPUI, ReadyAPI, LoadComplete.

and could be integrated with some other tools (eg Jira)

To manage all tests I thing better to use test management tool like QAComplete, HP/ALM or Zephyr.

all depends on what your product , what you need to test, what tools already used and your budget
