- JNeedlesContributorExcept that Record as Script doesn't have the append feature.
So you've added an extra step of having to copy and paste the new section of code into the old section of code by removing an option that wasn't on by default. Which honestly makes very little sense. - TanyaYatskovskaSmartBear Alumni (Retired)Hi Jack,
This option was removed in TestComplete 10.30. Now, TestComplete always creates a new test when you start the recording by selecting the Record Keyword Test or Record Script command from the Test | Record menu or from the Test Engine toolbar.
To add a new test to existing ones, use the Append to Test item on the test editor’s toolbar.

Hi Marsha,
I've got your suggestion. Thanks for saying this.
We will think on how we could improve the communication process with our customers.
- TanyaYatskovskaSmartBear Alumni (Retired)Hi Jack,
I've created a request to improve the Recording feature so that it would be possible to record a new script to the specified routine or current cursor position.
However, I cannot say when or whether this will be implemented.
We are sorry for the inconvenience.
@Community, if the new script recording behavior is inconvenient for you as well, please let me know.
The more user feedback we get, the more chance that the behavior will be changed/improved is!
- Hi Tanya,
I agree Jack's opinion strongly and the new script recording behavior is very incovenient for me.
Our application is updated often and I need to update the existing scripts often.
When I update only one small part in the specified routine and record the script, the new code appeared at the bottom of the script.
I have to copy the new code and back to the specified position to paste it.
Sometimes it is hard to go back to the current position because my scripts are very large.
Please restore 'always start a new script' option back. - TanyaYatskovskaSmartBear Alumni (Retired)Hi Masa,
Thanks for sharing your opinion. I've added your vote, as well.
- Marsha_RModeratorYes, put the option back please.
Is there also voting for what features are taken out of TestComplete? It seems like there have been a few things taken out of 10x that should have been left in and now users have to work around them while waiting for voting to put it back in. - TanyaYatskovskaSmartBear Alumni (Retired)
Hi Marsha,
I've added your vote for the script recording.
As for your question, our team is currently working on the public idea exchange. It's going to be released very soon. You can wait for a while and submit your feature request yourself. Or, you can describe the feature you want by creating a forum discussion, and I'll create a corresponding entry in our company feature tracking system.
- Marsha_RModeratorHi Tanya -
It's not so much about adding features, but I think that the users should get some warning when a feature may be removed so we can object ahead of time instead of after it's already gone. - TanyaYatskovskaSmartBear Alumni (Retired)
Hi Marsha,
I understand you. It's disappointing when you aren't able to use the feature you were using quite often. The fact is that we stop supporting obsolete or not very popular features. Sometimes, based on the customer requests, we reinstate some features. For instance, TestComplete 10.5 has the Manual Testing module again that has been removed from TestComplete 10.4. So, we listen to our customers.
