The object does not exist

Hello,



I am a newbie to TestComplete and could really use some help.  I am using a trail version of TestComplete 10 and am just running some really basic functional testing of web browsers.  I.E., clicking links, typing in words and doing a search.  But I am getting errors. For example, when I go to google.com and type in something in the search box, during playback, TestComplete cannot find the search box.  It launches the brower, thinks for a minute, then comes back with "The object does not exist".  And at other times, its like TestCompete is not recording my keystrokes correctly.  I will type in "siberian husky" for example, and during playback, it will type in something completely crazy and different from what I typed!  Help would be much appriciated!  Thanks!



Oh and I am using Firefox 27.0.1 and Internet Exploror 11.

    I haven't had any problems with autocomplete in my web tests but I wouldn't rule it out.

    As a rule I usually try everything in explorer first and then chrome and firefox to see different behavior.



    I did have problems not having the latest patches for chrome and firefox.

    TC10 and IE11 do not work together.  I had a similar problem and when I shared that I was running against IE11, I was told to downgrade IE if I could.



    Once I went down to IE10 nearly all of my compatibility issues were gone.



    I still have instances where TC10 won't even launch the browser, but that's far less than it was in IE11.



    If you can downgrade to IE10, then by all means do and your test will work.  I just tried it myself and it worked perfectly.

    Can you copy paste a bit of your code? Are you just using the script recorder?

    Well just based on the information you have given I was able to see pretty much the same thing. What is happening is likely google's option to show results as you type. So on google main page there is a settings option in the lower right and if you click this you'll see Google Instant predictions is like set to "Only when my computer is fast enough". When Test Complete is performing its tests your computer is likely "not fast enough" according to the browser and is thus not performing the instant search result, and the page is not where test complete expects it, and objects do indeed "not exist". Try changing this setting to "never show instant results" and record your test again. Hope that helps!

    Thanks for the links, the patch seems to have fixed the problem. I would still recommend disabling instant results as that does still pose a problem sometimes when playing back the test, although not nearly as much.

    "TC10 and IE11 do not work together."



    I am using IE11.0.9600.16518 TC version 10.0.531.7 and I don't have any problems running it with IE11. Maybe disabled the Test Complete extensions when you upgraded to IE11?

    I'm glad you're having no trouble with IE11.



    SmartBear told me the issues I was having with IE11 was was due to an incompatibility between TC10 and it.  There was no problem with the upgrade to IE11, but I trust SmartBear's advice as that corrected that majority of my issues with it.

    I am just using the recording feature at the moment not creating my own script.

    I turned off the instant results but it still is giving me issues.  I'm wondering if auto complete might be causing a problem as well.  I don't think google has an option to shut that off though.  At least not that I could find.
