Test Complete/Execute Install on Windows XP

Hi,

I've been trying to install both Test Complete and Test Execute 8.6 recently.  All three times I've tried it, it has crashed installing the HASP part (the licensing manager).  When I've tried to restart the computer being used, it starts to boot Windows, but never actually gets to the log on.  On one machine it was causing a blue screen; on the two others it just cycles through an endless re-booting process, usually restarting the machine as Windows comes back up.  The first two times I tried it on my own machine - in both of these cases I had to have Windows completely re-installed to get round the problem.  The most recent install is on a "retired" desktop to avoid breaking anything important!

It's possible to log back on in Safe Mode, I think; whether I can un-install the offending packages and try again I'm less sure.  Looking through the forums, I've yet to see another user with this issue, which makes me wonder if there's a conflict with something else we have installed here.

Any thoughts/ advice would be most welcome.

Thanks in advance,

Nick Hutchings

  • Hi,

Further to the above - I have managed to restore the machine to the point before the install, so it's possible to keep trying it.

On one attempt Windows restarted but I could log back on and inspect the install.  It had failed to install the Licence Manager correctly.  I ran the executable to do this (in the "Aladdin" folder) and sure enough, that then sent the machine into the cycle of rebooting as before.

Is the Licence Manager a piece of SmartBear software, or is it developed by someone else (if so I'll go off and check their support too)?

    Thanks again,

    Nick

Are you a local administrator on your machine?  The license manager software installs as a service and, if you're not a local admin, you may not be able to do the proper service installations and configurations.
  • Hello,

Yes, I'm a local admin on that machine, we can't install anything here without being one.

Interestingly, I've since tried installing a lower version (6.5) which appears to work fine.

    Nick

  • Hi Nick,

TestComplete 8 uses the third-party security software (Sentinel HASP). Since you face problems installing it on several machines, I am guessing that these problems can be caused by your corporate antivirus software or firewall which are installed on all computers. Please disable them and try installing TestComplete again.
