TC 15.84 new UI

Hi !

Just a feedback about the new Spy UI in the 15.84 version... Without the ability to copy the values directly from teh window, it is completely useless.

Fortunately we still can access to the old UI. But, if your plan is to drop the old UI in the future, please make this new window more useful. At least with allowing to copy the values.

    I agree.

Additionally, new UI (because it is web-based?) takes more screen space and lacks standard desktop functionality (e.g. columns width adjustment) which makes Avalonia-based Object Spy much less usable and handy when compared to classic desktop.

Agreed! Not sure how anyone would find this useful. Way too much white space to be useful at all.  No copy/paste seems like basic functionality that is just lost.

It also forces TC to minimize with no way to maximize and doesn't respect the preference not to do this.

Also someone should test in dark mode as it doesn't appear to work at all when the TC app is in dark mode.  The background and the text are white meaning you can't see anything.

Thankfully there is way to turn it off.

Hey, thanks for tagging me AlexKaras

As mikef mentioned above - for now, you can disable the new UI. We're already working on fixes and general usability.

Thank you for your patience, and we want to do better.

  • Hi folks,

Thanks for this feedback - we are aware of this happening on some devices.

This UI update is incremental and can be toggled off/on in the top right corner of your UI :

However please do keep sharing your feedback, it's always read and appreciated!

I can't use new UI, it isn't displayed correctly on my computer. I tried both Light and Dark Thema options but it displayed like below.

  • Seems to work decent in identifying the objects, but agree there is a lot of white space and no ability to copy anything.

I see it does actually find the objects in the Object Tree (although it takes a little time for objects buried deeply), which was something that never really worked well for me in the past.

which was something that never really worked well for me in the past.

Objects were not found from Object Spy in the Objects Tree for web applications when objects were identified by XPath/CSS (as set in the project properties) but not via native TC approach.

Just wondering if something was changed here or your current project is set to identify objects using old native TC approach...

The object tree visually appears the same.  When I would try to use it before, it would never expand the object tree properly to find the object within all the layers.  (Our product is still using the same UI components as before.)  I actually had a support call with their support a week or two ago (for a separate issue) and when he wanted to see the object in the Object Tree it didn't expand then too.

If I would try to expand the object tree in the past as I would expand the layers, with each subsequent layer it would slow and if I let it would take 30+ minutes for very deep objects.

Regarding two issues I reported in a prior thread...

Drop down options closing prematurely - Supplied a lot of info, a bare bones project, scripts, etc for them to reproduce this bug, and am awaiting a fix.  (I should see if this still occurs in this new version.)

Some instances of TestComplete Chrome Host hanging - still happens once or twice a day for me, even in this newest version, and has to be killed via process manager.  Coincidentally, when I was on a call with support and the session was being logged in more detail monitoring system processes, etc, this randomly happened too.  So, hoping that they can glean some details of this issue too and provide a fix for it.  (This is not as problematic as it was two versions ago where many instances of this process would remain open, now it is only one that randomly hangs.)

What is going on with this new UI? It looks awful and doesn’t work properly in the desktop app. My entire system freezes whenever I try to drag the crosshair onto an object. How did this make it through testing?

That new interface is indeed horrible, and I’m having the same issue as you, ozayke.

Is there no one testing the testing tool? :-D
