Associate TestComplete File with Multiple Test Cases.

    The difference there is that it's direct Microsoft code... In your situation, you're using a, technically, third party tool to run the automation associated with MS VS test cases.  That third party tool associates an interface file (tc12Test) with the test case in a 1 to 1 relationship.  If you were doing everything strictly through Microsoft, then yeah, the solutions on that StackOverflow would apply... but this is not the case.

     

    Bite the bullet... create multiple tc12Test files... each one potentially identical, associate them with your test cases, run the full solution.

OK...  so, you have a single tc12Test file that is associated with more than on Test Case (test case as defined by the test case item in Visual Studio).

That is probably bad configuration.  The tc12Test file is the mapping of the TestComplete project item(s) to the Test case...  Ideally, it indicates what items need to be run to execute that single test case.  If you need to run a different test case, that should be a different tc12Test file because, usually, there are different test items that are executed for each test case or test items that have different parameters for each test case.

 

So... you're findings are correct... 1:1 ration of tc12Test file to test case... at least as I understand it.

but sometimes only one script covers multiple test cases, e.g I have to test some screen with valid and invalid test data, assume script has a loop and data source is excel file. Suppose we have two or three test cases for validating the screen. If script run is successful for all valid and invalid data, I'd like to mark all my two or three test cases passed in Test Plan. It means this scenario could not possible. Please correct me.

 

I think there must be some workaround to mark multiple test cases passed by single tc12Test file.

    I don't think there is a way to mark multiples complete using the methodology you're using.  Again, the file is associated with the test case.  So, when you run the file, you mark the test case.  Your best bet is to create multiple tc12Test files to associate with each test case.  The content of them may be pretty much identical, but that is probably your better solution.
