I set a parameter's default value to 'mc1234!!' but when I run the script, testcomplete only enters 'mc1234!' I then try to change the default value to 'mc1234!!!!' but testcomplete strips out ...

Since ! has special meaning you have to type it twice to simulate it once, as stated in the above help topic.
