Object Spy not seeing child objects on pop-up windows or new Chrome tabs.

This just seems to have started over the last week, my assumption is a Chrome update did something that Test Complete cannot handle yet.

These tests work fine in Edge (for now?).

I have tried updating to 15.80.1.7 and it still happens.

When running web tests, if a pop-up page is opened, or if a link opens a new tab in Chrome, the test is failing to find the objects on the page. These tests ran fine last week and no updates have been made to those pages.

If I try to edit that test step and highlight the button on the screen, it just highlights the whole page.

If I open Object Spy, it shows zero child objects on the page.

Have any of you seen something like this recently?

If TestComplete is failing to highlight a particular object, and instead highlights the entire page when using the Object Spy tool, it implies that SmartBear Test Extension is either not installed or disabled in Chrome

SmartBear Test Extension installed and enabled

It is installed and working, this is only happening when clicking something on the webpage opens a new tab or window in the browser.

So maybe something is happening that the extension is no longer able to access pop-up windows or new tabs?

A while back, when I was using TestComplete v15.71.4.7 with Google Chrome v131.0.6778.265, I logged the following issue "Object Spy tool is not able to identify individual objects, after navigating back or forwards" when using XPath.

I'm able to identify "W3Schools How To", and Object Spy tool shows all the relevant information.

However, when navigating back to the previous page,

TestComplete fails to identify individual objects.

Seems like similar behaviour is occurring again. I suggest opening a Support Ticket.

Let me know what happens, it does seem latest chrome has broken things. keys to certain elements has stopped working, rolling chrome back fixes the issue

I have a video call with support tomorrow.

For now my work around is changing those tests to Edge. That is not a long term fix though, eventually Edge will break as well.
