license of testcomplete

My company purchased node-locked license for Test Complete Enterprise v.8. We are planning to do record and play.We test our application on the fresh virtual machine (VMware).After every release of our product we kill the virtual machine that was used for testing and create a new virtual machine to test newest build. We never test on the physical computer.

Is it possible to install test complete every time on the fresh virtual machine with node-locked license? Or is there any other way?

I have gone through the documentation on the Smart Bear website, it stated "With a Node-locked license, to activate the license on another computer (machine B) once it has already been activated in machine A, we need to deactivate the license on machine A. It has also written that deactivating license limitation is three". Is this correct?

I also read that “Regardless of the Test Complete license type (Node-Locked or Floating User), the Test Execute instances shipped as part of the Test Complete Enterprise package follow the Floating User license type. This means you can run them on virtual machines: you activate the Test Execute license on a physical computer and then install and run Test Execute on virtual machines. “

What if we do not test on the physical computer?

And also, we test demo version of our product and client-server separately. So,How installation of test complete and record and playback tests will work if we are testing two versions (demo and client server) of our products on different machines?  How many time can we activate instances of test execute on the virtual machines?

I am sorry. My questions are too confusing. What is the best way to do?

    Hi Aruna,

    I would recommend you to go through the TC Licensing Guide at http://smartbear.com/support/viewarticle/14433/. It contains detailed answers on all your questions.

    In a nutshell:

    -- Node-locked license must and can be installed on the physical computer only;

    -- Node-locked license can be deactivated and reactivated a-new three times only. After that you will have to contact Sales or Support;

    -- If you have an Enterprise edition of TC, then you should have one floating license for TestExecute. If you don't want to install TC on the physical box, you should install License Manager (available for download on your Customer Portal where you downloaded TC from, more installation and configuration details in the mentioned Licensing Guide) on the physical machine that will serve as a license server and activate license there. After that you will be able to do any number of TestExecute installations on any box, either physical or virtual ones, but have only one instance running at any given moment of time.

    Hi Aruna,

    Alexei has answered all of your questions. I would like to add that if you do not have a physical computer to activate your license on, I recommend that you contact your account manager or our Sales Team (sales@automatedqa.com) and describe your setup in detail. They will come up with an acceptable solution.

    Thank you for your prompt reply. If Test complete is installed and created tests with keyword testing on the XP machine but wanted to test our application on the win 7 via test execute. Is it possible?
