IE 8 stops working while running the scripts

What other tests are you running before the test that is getting the error?  Is it possible that IE is in a "bad" state at the end of one of those other steps?  Are you certain that the application you're testing through IE is not somehow creating this bad state?



Without knowing the specifics of what is being tested, there's not a whole lot other direction we can point you.

This error doesn't come after a specific test. It is random. And if I run only test before that particular test where IE 8 crashes it works fine. So I dont think any particular test takes IE 8 in 'bad' state.

First of all, please update your instance of TestComplete to the latest version which is 8.60 and check whether the problem occurs with it as well.



If the problem exists in the latest version of the tool, please let me know how often the problem occurs. Also, please follow the steps below to try to get information on exceptions raised in Internet Explorer when the problem occurs.



To help us investigate the problem, please follow the steps below:



1. Download AQtime Standard, which is our free profiling tool, from our web site:

2. Start AQtime.



3. Select the 'File | New Project' main menu item.



4. In the Open File dialog, select Internet Explorer's executable file and click Open.



5. Take a look at the AQtime toolbar - there is a combo-box. Open it and select the "Tracing | Exception Trace Profiler" item.



6. Select the "Options | Options..." main menu command - the Options dialog will appear.



7. Set the "Profiling Time | Event View | General | Exceptions | Depth shown" setting to 100 and click OK.



8. Click the Run toolbar button (the green arrow) or press F5 to start profiling.



9. AQtime will start Internet Explorer and trace all exceptions that will occur in the application until it is closed.



10. Reproduce the problem.



11. After the problem occurs, right-click somewhere within the Event View panel (it is opened by default at the bottom of AQtime's window) and select the 'Save All...' item.



12. Save the panel's contents to an HTML file and send us the file using our Contact Support form.

Has there been any resolution to this?  I am continually getting the same error in both IE8/IE9.  The scripts will run fine, sometimes all the way through, sometimes most of the way through, and occaisionally only for a test or two.  Then IE crashes.



When the dialoge box for the crash clears IE "resets," but by that time the scripts have "given up."

I had issues when I ran my tests from IE9 from a CI process(Teamcity by JetBrains) which called TestExecute, I HAD to switch to Firefox!!!

In any case, as I've been monitoring these forums, this particular issue hasn't apparently come up.  I've run a lot of web scripts here in IE8 (not IE9 yet as we're not validating it for our industry yet) and haven't had this kind of problem pop up.  Are you using flash, silverlight, or some other "rich" web content stuff?  Is it possible that it's that stuff that's hanging up IE?

Such kind of issues, as a rule, occur because of specific settings like installed IE add-ins or antivirus software. Please follow the steps with AQtime a posted before and submit a request to us.

I have tried to run AQTime as requested and keep receiving an error telling me there is no debug info.  Shouldn't IE as a .NET app be visible to AQTime?

This may be too late but I hope would be useful.

The another way to keep test running even after IE stops or crashes is to detect this event and add handler to this event.



Whenever there is crash in IE or it stops responding the process named 'werfault' exists in the system and after certain timeout we can detect this if IE actually crashed or stopped working. I have implemented this approach and after I am able to run the my test suite of around 200 tests even if browser crashes with restarting it in the same event.
