It would help if you let us know the type of your tested application (native, .Net, web, etc.) and the window class (WndClass property in the Object Browser) of the problematic grid and list controls.
Also you may consult with developers as for what controls they are using and try to search for these control names in TestComplete help - it contains a lot of code samples as for how to work with a lot of different controls.
