FindChild() cannot find correct object.

    Issue here turned out to be "OleValue" property, which according to smartbear is dummy property inserted by TestComplete and should not be used for Finding objects. So issue is fixed if I use:

     

    RadTreeListView.FindChild(["ClrClassName", "DataColumn.DisplayIndex", "Value"], ["GridViewCell", 5, "ABCDEFG"], 100, true);

According to documentaion ..
When the FindChild method is used to search for an object by its name (the Name property), TestComplete ignores spaces and the following characters in the name:
( ) [ ] . , " '

even though you havent explicitly used "Name" property I suspect there may be ignored character.

insted try defining your array seperatly
var1 = [...] var2 =[.....] etc

FindChild(var1,var2, 100,true)

    Thats not an issue here.

     

    When I do a FindChild() with "WPFControlOrdinalNo" instead of "DataColumn.DisplayIndex" in the above example, it works fine. So the issue lies somewhere else.

     

    Either I am doing something wrong or It looks like there is a bug in the  FindChild() method implementation.

      Can someone please help me with this. I am stuck on this problem and can't move forward unless this gets resolved.

      Hi there,

      I've been recently working with WPF data grid and figured out that I can't rely on its indexes (WPF indexes), because they are changing all the time, in my case when scrolling...

      So the situation with me was like I wanted to choose column with name NAME1 and WPF index 1 (I knew that column number was 1), but I got NAME8 with WPF index 1 (because I scrolled to the right and got indexes changed, so I suppose column with WPF index 1 was the first one visible on the screen)

       

      In your case it could be like is sees one column with WPF index = 5 and correct value, trying to get it, but encounter other column with the same index = 5, and thus you get incorrect column.

       

      So I would recommend to try NOT using WPF indexes to find any element, try to avoid using WPF indexes at all and find any other nested indexes that are not changing, or don't use indexes at all.

       

      In case it doesn't help - please provide more information about properties of the object you are trying to work with.
