I had the idea of only using width does not equal zero to map the items that were causing problems. This almost worked, almost, but now I click show in object browser and it shows me the one with zero width for a little bit, then like 2 seconds later switches to the correct one. After a little bit that stopped doing that and just showed the panel with width zero even though the mapping was width does not equal zero.
