First of all, post the values of the ClrFullClassName and ProductVersion properties of the problematic control. These properties contain the name and version of the control, so you can find out whether the control is supported by TestComplete. If it is, try to reproduce the problem with a demo application that uses the supported Developer Express controls. To do this, run the <DevExpressDemos>\XtraGrid\Bin\GridMainDemo.exe sample, select the "Editing | GridLookUp Editor | Inplace" item and try to reproduce the problem with the grid that appears. If the problem can be reproduced with the sample application, please post here the version of your operating system and TestComplete. We will try to reproduce the problem.
