Dealing with x,y mouse clicks with different resolution

I made several tests that recorded x,y mouse coordinates for the click.  When I move the test to a different machine that has a different monitor resolution the x,y no longer maps correctly.   ...

What Robert advises is accurate to a point. For a button, you can just issue a click. Click will click on the center of the object. If you were clicking on some other object, though, issuing a click in the center of the object is not always what you are going for. What technology is your application under test?
