Converting project from 7.5.2 to 8 also converts backup copy of project..

We recently started using TFS for source control.  Previous to this all our scripts were stored on a shared server.  After moving the 7.5.2 files to TFS, I made sure any reference I could find to the old shared drive was changed to the local drive, saved the changes, then converted it in TC8.

Much to my surprise, the copy on the shared drive also was converted to 8, and we want it to remain 7.5.2 compatible.  Could I be missing a hidden reference somewhere?  The shared drive files are NOT in TFS.

  • Hi Jack,

I'm not quite sure that I understand your scenario correctly. So, could you please describe it more specifically and let me know which references were changed?

BTW, to learn how TestComplete adds files to SCC systems, see the "Adding Files to Source Code Control" help topic.
  • We're not using TC 8's TFC Source control integration yet.. we'e just using it for general source control at the moment.

so what I did was take my TC 7.5.2 projects on my mapped H: drive (Our department shared drive) and copied the whole thing to the local TFS source control folder (C:\TFS)

After trying to track down references to old the H: drive folders and files (I dont think to keep a log of the changes to which references) I converted the copy of the project in C:\TFS to TC 8.  When I did this, it also converted the project files on the H: drive.  We'd like to keep a backup of the older files in the earlier format.

  • Hi Jack,

Such a situation could happen if one checked in the converted copy of your project suite and checked out it to the H: drive.

If TestComplete 7.52 project suite was put to the source control, you can get that original project suite version (not the latest one, which was converted to the new format) from there. I recommend that you search through the TFS documentation for additional information.
