Chrome minimizes and reopens every on screen action

We're experiencing an issue where for every on screen action Chrome minimizes and reopens. I created a brand new test suite and wrote a simple test navigating around the smartbear site and we are still running into this issue. We can't run tests because every time we open a dropdown it goes away when chrome minimizes and re opens.

We've been on TC version 15.75.22.7 for two months with no problems. (Waiting on IT to upgrade TC to latest version to see if that helps) Chrome did just update to version 139.0.7258.67. I have opened a case with support but wondering if anyone else has run into this issue with the latest chrome update.

Thanks in advance

Do you have guys have any update for this? Their support team is not helpful at all.

Our systems just updated to Chrome 139.x and issues happened immediately.  I have submitted a Support Ticket as well.

I'm having the same issue. Tried running it on Edge, but it didn't help; the issue still exists. Already raised a support ticket -- hopefully they can fix it soon, it's delaying our tasks.

We're experiencing the issue in edge now as well. so now we have no ways to run our tests

  • Having issue with Test Complete while on drop down menu screen refreshed and drop down menu disappeared  and test failed after latest chrome udpates

Our tests have the opposite issue. When the dropdown opens, the screen minimizes and comes back and the dropdown stays open. It flashes like that for a while then the test fails and says something to the effect of "Could not close the dropdown window."

We changed our tests to run in Edge and they mostly worked yesterday, but I guess our computers got the Edge update last night because now the same thing is happening there.

That's probably because the issues was only identified three days ago, and the latest version of TestComplete was released about a month ago. It would not have been fixed.

rraghvani  - this issue was identified over 13 years ago - there are questions in this forum 13 years old with same problem - just search 'drop-down box not closing' in this forum !     Why can't this be fixed after users complaining about this for many years?  Does not give Good Confidence on using this software -

  • It looks like the issue stems from a compatibility mismatch between your TestComplete version (15.75.22.7) and the newly installed Chrome 139.x update on Windows 11.
TestComplete’s official support for Chrome is 134 https://support.smartbear.com/testcomplete/docs/app-testing/web/general/supported-browsers-and-technologies.html  Newer versions can cause erratic behavior unless a specific patch is applied as in the support reply back.

    Here’s what you can do:

    1. Rollback Chrome to a supported version (like 134) and test again.
    2. Upgrade TestComplete when release is made available that addresses the issue.

Received an update from support saying multiple users are experiencing this issue with chrome 139 and windows 11. They have escalated the ticket and their developers are looking at the issue

divyagupta03 No answer from support on a timeline for a fix yet. Responded that this is a critical issue as we are unable to run tests successfully. I will update this post if I hear back.

We have not seen the issue with Edge at the moment. So we are using that for the time being. Looking into ways to parameterize what browser we use for a whole test suite run
