Any available property to identify element based on hierarchy?

Question

Hi,&nbsp;&nbsp;I'm looking for an identifier in Object Spy, where I can specify 'click on 5th item in a hierarchy'. I don't want to identify based on text.&nbsp;For instance, I could then go to Name Mapping Editor and change that constant 5 of a property to Project variable.&nbsp;&nbsp;Thanks,Shiva

As you are testing web pages, the EvaluateXPath method is available for you. It searches through html elements by using a special expression you created. For example, your expression can look like this:
//OL[@class='ClassName']/LI[1]

To create an expression, you need to analyze the html code of your list.

Hi Shiva,Your tree object looks like Ext JS TreePanel / TreeGrid. If that's the case, you can also use the ClickCell method to click items by indexes or labels:

  tree.wChildView("Project: Shopping").wChildView("Remodeling").ClickCell("Fix lights", "Task");

// Click the "Project: Testing &gt; Mac OSX &gt; Chrome" item by indexes
  tree.wChildView(1).wChildView(0).ClickCell(2, 0);
}

For "Matilda Morris" in your example, it should be something like this:
// Each "wChildView" represents a parent item
treeObj.wChildView(0).wChildView(0).wChildView(0).wChildView(0).wChildView(0).ClickCell(0, 0);
You can record the item click and then change it to use item indexes instead of labels.

The answer will depend on how these items are displayed in the Object Browser. Please check the hierarchy of the objects. Or post here a screenshot of it taken in TestComplete’s Object browser.

Thanks for the reply Tanya.&nbsp;That's fairly complex to follow up. Just a question, Is the class name to be used from 'top' of hierarchy or bottom of hierarchy before the element?&nbsp;&nbsp;
