Max Connections Per Host

My particular test suite has 10 test cases that I run in parallel. I want some level of parallel test case execution, but I want to control the number of concurrent calls from my Soap UI test to my server. Can I use the "Max connections per host" option? If one of the test cases is held up waiting to get a connection on the Soap UI side, will it timeout if it has to wait too long, or is the socket timeout timer only begun once the connection has been made?
